First thing first...if your from the United States Antigua is pronounced ANTI-GA. I read many reviews of the hotel prior to going and was very hesitant about committing. Our travel agent at tropicaltravel.net recommended the hotel and we went. We are a family of 4 two brothers 23/24 and a mom/dad. We arrived and were intrigued by the property layout. Be reminded we arrived at 1:30am Christmas Eve. Off the lobby is the Casino/Bar which despite not having many people in the Casino at 1:30am it was a relief to see some action. The resort is all-inclusive meaning nothing is really top shelf unless you think Stoli is and food is not the best. However, the people and the experience was amazing. We stayed from the 24th of Dec till the 2nd of January; so we got to see a lot of diverse people. 90% of the occupants were from England. The other 10% from all over but mainly the US i.e.: New York/ East Coast. And every 3rd day roughly a plane of flight attendants from Virgin Atlantic arrive which is sometimes a breath of fresh air. The resort is split by the actual hotel part and the villa side. The hotel side is where we stayed two rooms with spectacular ocean views. Each room had a balcony and yet the linens were old; but the view setting made me brush that aside. The main pool is nice however very windy I don’t know if it’s like that all the time but by the shape of the palm trees around the pool I suspect it is. There are two beaches one which like the pool is windy but more private or the villa side beach which contains all the activities including sailing, windsurfing, snorkeling..etc. On the villa side beach there is also a couple yachts usually which add to the pristine view. As it was Christmas time people at the resort and villas were intermingling and the people we met at the restaurants/ bar each night made the next day at the pool or beach even more interesting. There are 3 restaurants; however the cliff side Piccolo Micclo has a $35 surcharge plus $18 for Caribbean Lobster. The other two restaurants are okay but after 10 days you'll need a break. English Harbour is about 15 minutes by cab and you should not pay more than $5 a person. At English harbor there is really only two places to eat one was called Abracadabra ran by a flamboyant Italian (very good Italian but bad seafood) and the other a French place but we never went there. The main town of St. John is a tourist trap for the cruises. However, if you step out of the square there is a little wine shop that is awesome to just sit and drink champagne before the hotel shuttle picks you back up later. This trip was not defined by the food or drinks yet by the people we met and the great property settings. The bartenders and servers at the restaurants are mostly good however you will run into a bad attitude more frequently than not. Overall St. James club should be rated 3 1/2 stars and if you’re looking for 4 to 5 star AAA rated you need to go to Jumby Bay or Captain Bluff/Curtain Bluff (I forgot). St. James club is a great vacation just be sure to not focus on just the food.

My girlfriend and I booked a stay at the St. James Club from Dec. 27-Jan.3, and just got home. We had a wonderful time, and loved the St. James resort. The people on staff were first class all the way, and the food was excellent. Our favorite place to eat was Coco's, but the other places were okay. We loved the bars on the beach, and the activities offered were alot of fun. Our room was cleaned by Charmain, and she was the sweetest person to work with. For 2 middle aged best friends, this was the trip of a lifetime, and we couldn't have found a better place than the St. James Club! We will be back, but the next time, we are bringing our husbands! We booked our holiday at the St James Club Antigua through recommendation from Best@Travel, our requirements were that we wanted a children's club that would take our little boy oliver who is 2yrs 7 months. We were given the option of 2 hotels one in barbados and the St James Club we chose the latter. On arrival we were given our room key and had been allocated the wrong room, we had booked a premium room which included a kingsize bed and a fridge, we were given a club which had twin beds and no fridge. We made our way back to reception to change rooms after much arguing we were informed they would change our room this was helped along by the fact that we had printed out details from the internet stating clearly what we had booked. We were then left in reception for over 2hrs! while they cleaned the room, this is a ridiculous amount of time when you have come off a long haul flight with a young child.
On arrival at the St James Club we were handed a document about the resort within this document was a section about the kids club it stated that they would only take children between the ages of 2-12 but all children must be potty trained; my son is not.
We went down to the club to explain that the only reason that we had come to this hotel was for the childrens club, they did say to me that if i wanted to I could bring him but would have to sit with him. We went to see the managment the arrangement we came to, which i had no choice to accept ,was that oliver could go there for a couple of hours in the afternoon but i had to go back every hour to check on his nappy this meant that by the time I'd dropped him off got to the pool undressed put some cream on i'd have about 15 mins before i'd have to get dressed and make my way back to the club. The children had their tea in the kids club at 5pm every day Kieshon who worked in the club said that oliver needed to be removed before this time as he might put the other children off their food because of him wearing a nappy!
The whole experience at the St James Club was disapointing and stressful the hotel is tired and in need of some TLC.
The hotel is part of the elite resorts group and nowhere on their website do they state anything about potty trained children we feel like we have been mislead.

Overall great holiday we stayed over christmas evrything was great they could have made a little more effort with Christmas no crackers hats ect, Santa did turn up on the Beach Christmas day on his speed boat no less.
For an all inclucive it is as good as it gets we booked via BA if we go again will book with Virgin as the Virgin team looked a lot more on the ball plus the flight with BA was very poor compared to the type of service that we are used to with Virgin.
Weather was great a little light rain now and again but only lasted 10mins tops

Stayed at The Beach Club at St James in December after booking a Virgin Megadeal. The Beach Club is part of the larger St James Club resort - having seen both rooms the larger and more modern rooms in the Beach Club were nicer!!! The Beach Club rooms open out on to the windy beach but are only a couple of minutes walk from the calmer beach where there are loads of sunbeds. Cocos restaurant is the all inclusive restaurant for the Beach Club - we only stayed a week but found the food to be really good especially on al a carte nights. Breakfast was a buffet and lunch had both a buffet and also snack menu. There is always the option to eat in the other restaurants at additional cost but that was never an issue for us. The drinks were excellent -champagne by the glass and premium branded spirits on offer and a beach cart coming to your sunbed all day!!! In my opinion the additional cost to "upgrade" to St James Club is not worth paying. If you are looking for a relaxing holiday then you can't go far wrong with the Beach Club - I am already planning my next visit!
