Caribe Club Princess Resort & Spa Reviews

A great Resort for the Cost

** Note ** This resort, and the neighboring resort (Tropical Princess) are FAVORITES for French & Russian travelers (mostly french). So while the staff speak good spanish and some english, you will definitely enjoy this if you speak french or russian.

The landscaping is lush and beautiful. The beach is amazing, the pools are very nice. We had no problems with the room (everything worked well and it was comfortable)
The food was pretty good on most nights.. definitely book some of the restaurants.

enjoy

Caribe Club Stay

We went to Punta Cana this year on our first Carribean vacation and we had a wonderful experience. There was my husband, our two daughters and myself. Granted we had a few bumps in the road on arrival but they were taken care of the following day by our Apple Rep. Tony. He was wonderful. Then we had Claribel who took care of our room and she was just lovely. She made some lovely animal creations with the towels that our children couldn't wait to photograph and bring home to show everyone of their friends. We met some lovely young men working at the resort on the beach and by the pool. There was Whoa, Gabriel, Carlos and Jonathan a few of many. They made us so welcome and made us laugh each day. Also one of the waiters in the El Huguer restaurant his name was Jose Manuel, he was so friendly and always greeted us with a smile. It was such a pleasure to have met all these wonderful people who made our vacation one to remember and we would highly recommend it to anyone who was looking to reconnect with their family. The food was out of this world with so much varieties to chose from each night and many wonderful restaurants to chose from too. The beach was heaven on earth and the pool activities were just what the doctor ordered. There was so much to do that our family got to spend some quality time together and enjoyed each others company. We thank all the staff there for our memories which we will cherish for a long time to come and maybe who knows they may see us again there real soon.

Caribe Princess

We have visited this hotel on 3 different occassions. We love the way the property is laid out. The lobby and evening entertainment is a pleasant 10 minute walk from the rooms which makes for a quieter stay. We love the closeness of the rooms to the beach and pool area as we are there to enjoy the warm water and sunny weather. We have always had the VIP package which includes a few extra amenities. The people that work for the Caribe are very friendly and accomodating. The food is nicely displayed and the staff makes a genuine effort to please. I would highly recommend this resort if you are looking for sun and fun.

We left Philadelphia on 11/21/2004 in a snow storm and after de-icing the plane we were on our way. Arrived in Punta Cana to beautiful sunny skies with a temp of 80. Our stay was from Nov 21 to Nov 28, 2005

Fortunately, since we were there last year, we were familiar with the need for a tourist card. Many people did not know this or that it cost $10.00/person. We were ready for this and whisked right through. We found the Apple Rep and located the bus to our hotel without problems. Within 1/2 hour of leaving the airport, we arrived at the Caribe Princess at 11:30 AM. The Apple Rep on the bus told us that check in wasn't till 3 PM but that all the rooms were ready and we could get our rooms after we checked in. Unfortunately, that was not true. We never established with the registration people if our room was ready. He kept repeating that check in was at 3 PM. That didn't bother us though as there was a bar in the lobby and we embellished a few. When we felt our thirsts were quenched, we found the buffet restaurant and had lunch. By the time we were finished lunch, we got into our rooms.

Our room was a superior garden view. Well, it wasn't quite superior. It was on the first floor with a king sized bed (as requested) but it looked onto a walkway and shed. We're easy to please and we knew we would be in the room only to sleep. Well, on the third day, the ceiling in the bathroom began to leak. We found this out at 3 PM and reported it immediately. We had a 6 PM dinner reservation and the leak still hadn't been fixed. We spoke to a person at the front desk and he said he would have it fixed by the time we were finished our dinner. We came back after dinner and found there was dirt over the sink and floor where they fixed the ceiling. We called and asked that the bathroom be cleaned and were told that someone would be there immediately. Immediately after we placed the call, we realized that the ceiling was still leaking. I called the front desk and told them we needed another room. Within 40 minutes, we had a room on the second floor with a wonderful view of the pool and ocean. The remainder of our stay with the accommodations went fine.

The restaurants were okay. There was a steakhouse and seafood place that was not included. It cost $35.00/person to eat there. Luckily, we did the VIP and it included one meal at either place. (I'll talk about the VIP later). We choose the seafood as we had read reviews that the steakhouse wasn't too good. Our meal at the seafood place was good. We each had lobster that was grilled to perfection. Also, there are 5 other restaurants that were Mexican, Chinese/Japanese, Italian, Dominican and Brazilian. You need to make reservations for these and the 2 pay restaurants every day with the concierge. The concierge begins taking reservations at 8:30 AM till 11:30 AM. If you are not in line by 8:15, you will not get the restaurant of your choice. There was much grumbling in line about this. We ate in the Mexican, Japanese/Chinese, and Italian. They were all good not great. Each had its pros and cons. We wanted to eat in the Brazilian, but the reservation got cancelled as the restaurant was closed the night we chose. We heard very good review of that restaurant. We were told that the Dominican was terrible, so we avoided that. There is a large buffet restaurant that is open all but 3 hours a day. The food was just okay.

The grounds were lovely. The lobby is separated from the rooms/pool/ocean area. It is about a five minute walk. The walk is very naturalistic. Lots of trees and flowers and birds. There is a tram that you can ride but we usually walked. The tram was not on any kind of schedule. You just had to wait till one came by. There was a couple of stores and a chapel on the site.

The pools were nice. We were connected with the Tropical Princess which had 2 pools. The Caribe had only one but that one had the swim up bar. We only visited that pool once and only for the bar.

The ocean was great. When we arrived on Monday, the weather was very windy. It was the same for Tuesday. We were wondering if that was because of the area we were in. Fortunately, by Wed., the winds stopped. If you were on the beach on those 2 days, it wasn't very relaxing. The water temp kept getting better and better each day. We are real beach bums, so we were in the water and on the beach every day. We did not feel the surf was rough as we had read. One thing we found is that there was not beach service. If you wanted a drink, you had to get it yourself. That wasn't a problem, I kept sending my husband up there.

The staff was wonderful. They seemed to try to be as helpful as possible. When we had all that room trouble, the front desk never gave us a hassle about getting another room. The room services and the staff in the restaurants do not speak much English. I know a little Spanish and with the help of my Spanish dictionary, was able to ask for washcloths and small bottles of water to be in our room everyday. (They give you a gallon bottle of water in every room). I did go to the dollar store and bought little things for the maid. I left them on the bed everyday with a "muchas gracias". The activities staff are very outgoing. There is something going on most of the day. They try to recruit everyone to join in. The nightly shows were not very good. There did things like imitating rock stars or skits from Lion King. We avoided them after the first couple of days.

VIP is the way to go. Some of the things it included were: a bottle of rum, 3 cigars, one/person complimentary dinner in the pay restaurants, one/person 20 minute massage (the spa staff was great), one/person motorized sport (we did the banana boat - had lots of fun), 2 beach towels in our room (otherwise, you had to get towels everyday from the activities desk), 2 hours of internet, and premium liquors. Those who didn't do VIP had to pay $3.00 to $4.00 for premium drinks.

There is a shopping district about a 5 minute bike ride away. We rode bikes there twice. The stores sell most of the same things. Bartering was pretty easy. The Dominicans don't seem to be high pressured. If we saw something in one store we liked but didn't like the price, we went to another till we got what we wanted for the price we wanted to pay. Around this same district is a casino. We had a tram that ran from our hotel to the casino. We did go one night and won some money playing slot machines.

Overall, we had a wonderful time. We stayed at Secrets last year that was a 6 golden apple and were not too sure what the Caribe would be like as it was only a 4 apple. Believe me, we were very well pleased. I would recommend this as a great place to vacation. I know this was pretty wordy, but I just want to let you know that we really enjoyed ourselves and you should put this on your list of great vacation spots.
